CLOTHES CLOSET RENOVATIONS COMPLETE - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Plans are to reopen the Clothes Closet this coming Wednesday, December 10th.  This outreach ministry is in need of VOLUNTEERS to do the following: set up the clothes on Monday and Tuesday; and operate this ministry on Wednesdays 2-4 pm (once a month or as your schedule allows). If you would like to help, please call the church office (252-3655) or sign up at the back of the church to find out how and when you can serve. Jesus said, “I was naked and you clothed me!”  When we do it unto the least of these, we have done it unto Jesus.

CHOIR NOTES…

From Music Director Keith Moreland:

Our choir continues to grow, but we need more men to join (women are still welcome also!)  The choir will be in the Loft the first Sunday in November, bringing choir specials each Sunday.  Our rehearsals are being held immediately following worship services each Sunday.

I am also looking for musicians, especially keyboardists and guitarists (lead, acoustic, rhythmn, bass) to form a contemporary band and other brass and wind instrumentalists to form a small instrumentalist group to play some during some of the services.  Please contact me if you are interested in any of these opportunities.

Greeters Needed!

Maude Lewis does an excellent job of recruiting Greeters for Sunday morning worship service, but she needs more volunteers.  If you might be available for this volunteer opportunity, please let the church office know of your interest.  All you need is a friendly smile and handshake!

Office Help Needed

If you have an extra hour one Thursday morning a month, we need volunteers to fold bulletins in the church office.  If you would be available to fold bulletins or assist with newsletters, please let Iona Hughes in the church office know of your interest.

Back Porch Bible Study

January 16, 2009

The Book of Acts

It's time to attend the Friday evening Bible Study! The study of Acts starts at 6:30 PM every other Friday on our beautiful new patio.  Buddy Johnson  leads this exciting study of Acts.  Mary Johnson takes care of dinner for you - and it's always a treat.

Acts is believed to have been written by Luke about the time of Paul's first imprisonment.  The book is a history of the establlishment and extension of the Church.  Luke arranges this historic material in such a way that the progress of the Gospel is immediately evident.

The purpose of Acts is best explained  in Acts 1:8:  "But you shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."

So far this year we have received 34 new members into the life and ministry of our church.

There is another membership class forming!

Pastor Ken is planning the next New Members' Class.    If you would like to become a member of this church, please make a notation on your blue card in church,  or phone the office at (386) 252-3655, or email pastorken@bellsouth.net

We welcome you to our community of believers.

Aluminum Pull Tabs

Rev. Bob Krouse has been collecting aluminum pull tabs for several years now and they are very needed.  Bob collects the pull tabs for a lady who gives them to the Blind Association to help with dialysis.  This is an ongoing project.  Keep saving those pull tabs and bring them to Bob.  What a wonderful way to help with this community service while recycling!

Any aluminum pull tabs will do - pop tabs, soup tabs, dog food tabs, etc.   Why not just put a zip lock bag in the kitchen to easily save them?

 WE NEED PLASTIC COFFEE CANS!!

We have a need for your empty large plastic cans.  Please bring them to church and leave them in the kitchen.  They are used for a variety of things - from taking flowers to the shut-ins to the Friday night meetings of Alcoholic Anonymous.  What a great way to recycle!

Over 2,500  Crosses Given Away

To date we have handed out over 500 crosses in worship.  Each new visitor receives one of the nail crosses as a gift.  Each of us are challenged to give our cross to someone who is in need of hearing about the love of Jesus.  Each week in worship we are hearing "Cross Testimonies" of how God is using us to reach out to others in sharing His love.  If you give your cross away, come and share on Sunday your "Cross Testimony" and receive another cross to wear and share.   If you wish to share privately with Pastor Ken, email Pastorkenz@bellsouth.net

Items for our Military

The  Hope Circle would like CUMC members/friends to get involved with providing our service men/women with needed items.   Contact Maude Lewis at 386-947-9605 for a list of needed items.  These items include combs, toothpaste and toothbrushes, toiletries, chewing gum, etc.  Please contribute to this worthwhile cause.  These service people are fighting for our freedoms.

Halifax Urban Ministries

North Street Homeless Center

Help Needed!!!

Halifax Urban Ministries feeds and helps the homeless at its center on North Street.   Donations of cash or "pantry" items such as canned goods, peanut butter, boxed dry food, and diapers are appreciated.  These may be brought to the church.  Your time and help is also needed!

Since September of 2004 Community United Methodist Church has accepted the responsibility of sending  people to the North Street Hallifax Urban Ministries center to help feed the hungry on the third Wednesday of each month.  They slice, dice, open cans, cook, set-up, serve, and wittness.  You are welcome to become a part of this outreach.  Your help is needed

In September of 2004 we were feeding approximately 150 people.  The number is now up to 300.  Te center serves a meal from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm each day.  Again, CUMC's day is the third Wednesday of the month.  We require 15 people from our church and are always in need of estra people to assist when our regulars need a day off.  Your help is needed.

Talk with Mary and Dick Shepherd (238-7935) to find out more about this ministry and/or become involved.

If you have news about your group's activity, please email Gwen GStuart1@cfl.rr.com so that it may appear on this page.  Thank you.
