FROM THE PASTOR..... REASONS TO REJOICE!!! One of the most frequently asked questions I get from family and friends is: “How are things going for you at the church?” When asked that question I find the pulse rate of my spirit begin to rise with passion and joy! There are reasons to rejoice! It has been a little over a year since we began this journey of faith and ministry together. There are reasons to rejoice in the restoration God has brought to our church. Let me share some reasons with you: Ø The Backporch beautification and restoration. Ø The organ restoration. Ø The lighting of the steeple restoration and celebration. Ø The 20 plus Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas gifts to local families. Ø A 30% increase in worship attendance. Ø 30 new members in 2008 to date. Ø Backporch Bible Study averaging 25 people every other Friday. Ø UMW and UMM continuing to be in missions locally and worldwide. Ø Vacation Bible School and back-to-school clothing for over 50 local children. Ø Worshipping in the sanctuary all summer long! Ø Paying all our bills including 100% of our connectional giving because of your faithful tithing and giving. Ø Clothes closet and lunch bag weekly give-aways. Ø Over 1500 cross necklaces shared with testimonies of Jesus’ love. Ø Sunday School classes and other small group ministries. I am sure I am leaving out other “reasons to rejoice.” But let me share one more that for me summarizes all the reasons we have to rejoice and the reason we are here as a “community of faith.” I recently received a letter from a church member who went on and on about what this church has meant to her and her family this past year. She listed various ministries that touched her heart in emotional, physical and spiritual ways. She concluded her letter with these words: “You made me a BELIEVER!” There is our reason to rejoice!!! The Bible tells us that when one person becomes a believer in Jesus there is great rejoicing in heaven. (Luke 15:7) This is just one of many testimonies I have received from people who are sharing with me what a difference this community of believers has made in their lives.
You see now why my spirit pumps with passion and rejoicing when someone asks how things are going at the church. I am rejoicing over what God is doing through the life and ministries of our church and you the faithful people of this church. There are reasons to rejoice! Share these joys with your family and friends about what God is doing here at Community UMC.
“ALWAYS BE FULL OF JOY IN THE LORD. I SAY IT AGAIN REJOICE!” Philippians 4:4 NLT

The Twenty-Two Questions Members of John Wesley's Holy Club Asked Themselves Every Day in Their Private Devotions More Than 200 Years Ago 1. Am I consciously or unconsciously creating the impression that I am better than I really am? In other words, am I a hypocrite? 2. Am I honest in all my acts and words, or do I exaggerate? 3. Do I confidentially pass on to another what was told me in confidence? 4. Can I be trusted? 5. Am I a slave to dress, friends, word or habits? 6. Am I self-conscious, self-pitying, or self-justifying? 7. Did the Bible live in me today? 8. Do I give it (the Bible) time to speak to me every day? 9. Am I enjoying prayer? 10. When did I last speak to someone else of my faith? 11. Do I pray about the money I spend? 12. Do I get to bed on time and get up on time? 13. Do I disobey God in anything? 14. Do I insist upon doing something about which my conscience is uneasy? 15. Am I defeated in any part of my life? 16. Am I jealous, impure, critical, irritable, touchy or distrustful? 17. How do I spend my spare time? 18. Am I proud? 19. Do I thank God that I am not as other people, especially as the Pharisees who despised the publican? 20. Is there anyone I fear, dislike, disown, critize, hold a resentment toward or disregard? If so, what am I doing about it? 21. Do I grumble or complain constantly? 22. Is Christ real to me?
